Shellys London Spectator Mary Jane

I'm am really drawn to the details at the toe of this shoe. It also comes in a black (cap toe part) but I feel that the wine color makes it a little more special than your average shoe. Its the kind of shoe I would happily wear to work and know that its not too casual. The pvc material makes me confident that it can withstand weird DC rains and live to walk another day. Plus, this one in particular is not black (were I to buy it!) and that would be a nice way to add color in my outfit. And lastly because its on SALE (all the magic words I need!).

(stacey adams DAYTON)
writer John Kelly writes about the wingtip:
I sing of shoes and the man, of boot and loafer and lace-up, of sneaker and flip-flop.
But of all of these shoes, I sing of one shoe in particular: stout of sole and firm of heel, the upper shot with tiny holes and edged in serrated leather, anointed on its toe with a curious medallion and marked over the instep by a sign, a sign as recognizable as the Z of Zorro or the ankh of the sun god Ra.1 See it? The symbol? From where you're standing it looks like a lazy W, but from where I'm standing -- looking down at the well-polished shoes on my feet -- it resembles a bird in flight about to flap its powerful wings and soar higher still.
I sing of the wingtip.

what to do about the rain

a pair of these will run you around $130.
for a cheaper alternative i suggest checking out a equestrian apparel store, like http://www.chicksaddlery.com/ they sell women's rubber riding boots that cost $36.99. Here's how they look like:

PROS: since its made from rubber it will wear well, minimal upkeep, and will last you a very very long time! hence the investment in the $130 Aigles for some people may be worth it (i myself am contemplating this!). It also looks much more stylish than the rain boots or the wellingtons when paired with skirts, tights, leggings, skinny jeans, dresses...and also because it's rubber, it will obviously protect your feet from getting drenched.
CONS: depending on how big your calves are, it may be too tight to wear with jeans. always check to see if there are bigger calf sizes (i know aigle has varying sizes).
in the end i think equestrian boots are long lasting, classics that will never go out of style.

Why flats?
Ever since I was a little girl, I knew that I lived for flats. I even remember my first pair...or pairs I should say. One was a aquamarine blue and the other was fuscia. I was 13 years old and they matched 2 pairs of rather hideous leggings that I owned back in the early 90s.
Fast forward to the present day: flats are God's gift to women! They are extremely comfortable while giving an ultra feminine look. If you are on your feet all day working, the right pair of flats would look dynamite with any outfit without killing your feet (think of wearing 3 inch heels all day, we're not all Beyonce who can dance like a mad woman on heels!)
Here are some wonderful online resources to purchase your flats:
http://www.piperlime.com - they just came out with their spring flats selection! all gorgeous! i particularly adore the Ann Klein ones.
http://www.zappos.com - online shoe store giant Zappos.com also has a very extensive catalogue of flats with varying price ranges so you can find the cutest pair whatever your tastes may be.
for the money conscious here's some places to poke through:
http://www.payless.com - ive gotten many a cheap flat here with varying quality. some have lasted longer than others naturally, but over all not bad if you're just itching to buy a trendy pair.
http://www.gap.com - they've been coming out with cute flats lately. Last holiday they had a satin ballet flat line in silver, black, chocolate brown, and gold. all incredibly cute!
http://www.aldo.com - another cheaper alternative with loads of different styles. I would check their online store as well as regular retail stores frequently because they always have different stock.
http://www.ninewest.com - nine west flats are always comfortable and always well made!!! i've been shopping with them since I was young.
http://www.dsw.com - check out your local DSW as well, they have a fairly large collection and constantly have new items on their sale racks.
