Gentle Souls for Gentle Feet?
I haven't owned a pair of Kenneth Cole shoes since I was in middle school. So safe to assume that it's been awhile. The Gentle Souls line of flats though stirred my interest. According to the graphic below, there is a layer of flaxseed embedded at the sole of the foot to provide cushioned comfort with every step. There are little pillows that will supposedly mold to the shape of your feet.
I need to go to Kenneth Cole today and check these out! Will report back on how it feels. At $195 (available http://www.kennethcole.com/) it's not cheap. But if it makes walking blissful, it may really be worth the price.

My pick is the Gentle Souls at Bay (see image below). It's a leather maryjane and is lined with deer skin. It looks very utilitarian yet luxurious at the same time. I love the buckle detailing and the contrast of the black leather with the saddle tan strap.

ETTORE MASOTTI Ballet Flats

More pretty flats! Love the chiffon flower detail. Its on sale at yoox.com for $75 originally $149! There are still lots of sizes available so hurry up and grab one!
My own shoe shopping is on hiatus as I attempt to clear more space in my closet. And there are still shoes that I haven't worn yet just sitting in their boxes. Hehehe, I suppose most girls experience this right? :) When you get a great formal shoe on sale and then it just stays there for awhile until you have the occasion to wear it...hahahaha! I think I have four pairs of different black shoes that fit into this category.
There've been lots of things that I'd love to buy, BUT until I use up the things that I haven't worn yet, must practice some restraint. So I'll just have to post those things that I'm coveting here. And drool, then drool some more.
I can hardly believe it's already JULY and yay for long weekends! I'm going to ask L out on a dress up date, and perhaps use one of the black shoes that have been sitting in solitude...
YOU CAN STILL WIN A BB DAKOTA BELLA JACKET! :)

Nala Flat
The Nala flat is by DV by Dolce Vita features rock and roll studs and comes in black, gold (seen below), and silver. I've never owned a studded pair of flats before but this is definitely a more wallet friendly version than the Marc Jacobs studded flat.
Here's the product info:
The Nala from DV by Dolce Vita packs a ton of glamour into a very low profile. It's glove-like leather upper with elasticized collar is accented with faceted metallic embellishments for a bold look that will still keep you light on your feet.
Materials:Raja upper Manmade sole
available from endless.com for $69.95 with free overnight shipping!

soir de lune flats
I am going gaga over soire de lune flats. Yoox.com has a fantastic collection of them available now. I love the feminine touches of bows and straps (whether thick or thin) really adds something to the shoe without going overboard.
The prices are between $100-180 which isn't cheap, but not ridiculously expensive either. If your looking for simple but definitely chic ballet flats, you can't go wrong here!

the question is whether they are comfortable or not. I'm still looking for reviews on these babies.
L and I are going to be in new york this coming weekend. While I'll be busy with "work" during the day I'm already planning out my shopping stops. I would just kick myself if I didn't go.
I was watching The Rachel Zoe project on bravo yesterday (there was a marathon and i swear there was nothing else to watch lol) and she got some beautiful vintage pieces while she was at fashion week. I wish I could remember the name of that store...
While I don't think I can afford the stuff she wears, I'm definitely going to have to make a stop at Top Shop. I met one of the hiring managers for the store quite randomly many months ago while she was in DC for the weekend and I'm so happy its finally opened!
My other must must go to: Uniqlo because i need cheap cashmere cardigans.
Mmmm does anyone have any other suggestions to where I must definitely definitely stop by?

Edelman vs. Edelman
I've been a Sam and Libby fan since the nineties. They've always had cute shoes that weren't overpriced and never gave me blisters.
For awhile though I forgot about them until looking at Johanna Cox's old dc blog (ASJINE) and read her rave reviews on the Sam Edelman Women's Carrie T-Strap Flat. The name sounded so familiar so like any good researcher, I googled it. =) To my pleasant surprise this sam was of Sam and Libby! Needless to say I purchased my own Carrie flat and the rest is history.
Flashforward to a few days ago and I read somewhere about Libby Edelman shoes. Yes! Libby now has her own line as well with Famous Footwear showcasing her spring designs (click here!)
Both the Sam Edelman and Libby Edelman lines have featured snakeskin on their flats and lots and lots of gladiator sandals. This husband and wife duo have been in the shoe business for a very long time. According to Libby Edelman's CFDA profile, the duo sold the Sam and Libby shoe company in 1996 and retired for five years. They re-emerged with the Edelman Shoe Inc.
Sam's CFDA profile notes: Going from 3 to 88 million sales in only 4 years, the Edelman’s single handedly placed the ballet shoe on the map.
I have to say thank you to the Edelmans for designing and creating such wonderful shoes!
Here's an old article from the New York Times about the couple and how they met!
STYLE MAKERS: SAM AND LIBBY EDELMAN; SHOE MERCHANTS
By Lawrence M. Fisher
Published: Sunday, October 8, 1989
Sam and Libby Edelman fell in love at a 1979 shoe fair. He was there as a salesman for his father's business, she as footwear fashion editor for Seventeen magazine. Now they own Sam & Libby California, which offers a popular line of leather flats.
Along the way, Mr. Edelman, 37 years old, was an executive at Kenneth Cole and El Greco, and Mrs. Edelman, 36, was director of public relations at Calvin Klein. The native New Yorkers headed west in 1983 to join Esprit de Corp., a San Francisco sportswear company. In July 1987, they left Esprit to form Sam & Libby.
In Europe that summer, they saw young women wearing ballet flats.
"'I thought, if fashion comes from Europe, the ballet will be the next hot shoe in America,'' Mr. Edelman said. ''But we couldn't just copy the Europeans - American fashion needs to be frilly, flirty and decorated - so we put a big leather bow on it.''
Sam and Libby has since sold 1.5 million pairs of leather ballet flats, at about $30 a pair. Stores carrying the line include Bloomingdale's, Macy's and Nordstrom. It has branched out into many designs, all flats except for one short, heeled boot.
For fall, the company has black velvet slippers decorated with small mirrors, and burgundy suede flats with gold charms. For spring, it offers multicolored huaraches, batik-fabric flats and strap sandals dubbed the Straptease.
Mrs. Edelman said, ''We look to us and our lives'' for ideas. ''We're stylish and we know what's happening, but at the same time we're not outrageous.''

my future shoe
Susannah over at Jewelbox Dreams has been an advocate of Blochs ballet flats for a long while and her most reccent review of Bloch's new streetwear ballet flats has me really jonesin for a pair myself!
Thus voila! The women's city roll up ballet flat will be mine before the end of the year!!! :) At $104.95 it's not exactly inexpensive (available at Endless.com) but as Blochs has been the go-to shoe for ballerinas it certainly must be comfortable and enduring (and ultimately worth your money!)

I for one can't wait to feel the buttery leather on my toes :)
