its been awhile!

apologies for being so M.I.A these past two weeks! Between work, studying, writing, and a few other extracurricular activities blogging has had to take a back seat to the madness.

i've been writing voraciously for academic and non-academic purposes and it's a great realization for me to come too that I can and I should do this for the rest of my life. So, here's to everyone being on the path to making their dreams come true.

i leave you with an awesome picture from Jak and Jill featuring my favorite colors: white, black, and grey.

phew!

It's been a little hectic these past few days and I'm finally have a tamed morning where I can sit, drink my coffee, and write.

It was incredibly hard to resist the Delman sale at Gilt from Monday because they had some awesome awesome flats that my toes were begging me to buy for them. But I resisted because i'm saving up to buy me a Wendy B Lotus flower necklace! So I persist to resist =P

The Norma Kamali items I ordered from walmart came!! The jacket is a little big in the arms but nothing that a run in the dryer won't hopefully fix. The quality is of course a little worse than the image but for $11 , not bad at all. I also ordered the black sweartshirt dress which I love and will probably be wearing all weekend.

Speaking of sweatshirts, I'm also daydreaming about an awesome one I saw a few weeks ago while shopping at Tysons. It's from a Canadian company called Garage and their mod sweatshirt is really cool looking. It's more fitted, but looks comfy and the hoodie itself is as it's name, very mod looking.

Ok, enough rambling for now and back to work!

Belated irish drunk drunk day too. :)

so here it is

When reading the Half-Blood Prince, one of the most difficult parts for me to get through was the Harry/Ginny pairing. I just never warmed up to Ginny Weasley being a love interest to our protagonist and I was secretly wishing for Harry and Hermione to get together instead.

But alas here is a publicity still from HBP.

I will still undoubtedly watch the movie when it comes out, I'll just close my eyes when this scene happens.
And now back to your regular programming...

my etsy want of the day

The twiggy- white sporty mini dress or tunic with huge funnel/ cowl neck long sleeves and cute pockets by J. Alvo

Jackie Alvo is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, with a bachelor’s degree in fashion design, my design esthetic is inspired by everything I see, hear, and read, usually translated in to hip, modern, clean designs that work with the fabric's natural properties.

She has a number of pieces that I would love love to purchase (perhaps with my tax refund? haha!) includign a cowl neck sweater dress and a wonderful ultra-light weight jacket.

aw shucks...

Mmmm how much do I adore L? too much for words!

While I am stuck at work today, L is off at Metro Center looking for a new pair of jeans at H&M and Zara. Then I suddenly get 3 new emails in my inbox.

It's 3 messages from L sending me pictures of things he thinks I'd like. Aww!!

more on twilight

So I saw the movie this weekend and what can I say...it was incredibly reminiscent of Episode II in awful acting. The unfortunate part is that most of the actors are really good actors! Robert Pattinson was good as Cedric Diggory in HP4, Kristen Stewart was good as Jodie Foster's daughter in Panic Room, and Nikki Reed was good in Thirteen!!!

Director Catherine Hardwicke did a great job directing Thirteen and Lords of Dogtown!

But there was way way way way too much overacting. It was hard to watch at moments.

Was it the screenplay? Did the screenwriter just not do a great job with translating the book into something that would work for film?

I have to give credit to all the Harry Potter movies because they did a pretty great job in making the movies satisfying.

All in all, Twilight the movie was what I expected it to be. It was by far not amazing, but I think it was still a treat to see these characters being played out.

So I finished New Moon last night and started reading Eclipse and so far I'm not really bothered by things I've read that other people are annoyed about. Maybe its because I was just itching to find out what happened next. So far I'm guiltly enjoying myself and stayed up way too late reading. :) Ahhh but despite predictability I have become invested in the characters.

Because of the $70+ million dollar success of Twilight's opening weekend, Summit Entertainment is option for New Moon to be made into a movie as well. Will I go see it? Probably...why? Cuz no matter how bad the acting and dialogue is, it's still fun to see the characters come to life.

And here's my couple of the moment going to prom, as seen in the movie!

ON FASHION:

I was all for the wadrobe they gave Edward, I think he was the best dressed out of all the characters in the movie. He was wearing a varied shades of blue and grey! One of my favorite color schemes and a particularly great alternative to black. There were some good jackets as well: nice grey short peacoat with the collar flipped up and the dark navy cotton jacket he wore during the hospital hallway scene. I like too that they had him wear button ups, knit shirts, and jeans.

They did do a bit color scheme matchy-matchy with the cullens. Tho I did like that, perhaps a TAAAAAD overdone tho :) But all the cullens were wearing varied shades of blue, grey, and white. It was a nice way to highlight the grayness of the Pacific Northwest.

Bella's clothes were good for her character, very very plain and ordinary. The dress above is probably the fanciest thing she wore, being it was for prom. Though I don't think that 17 year old girls should have necklines that plunge so much.

But what I did like about the rest of how the highschoolers were dressed were the way you'd expect them to be!

ok so I apologize that I didn't pay attention to the clothes as much as I thought I was going too, I was trying really hard not to laugh out loud too much =P

I promise my next post will take a more indepth look at the costumes of the Cullens and the other characters of the movie (aka, another reason for me to distract myself and look at pretty movie stills. hahaha!)

off post: twilight

So I finally jumped on the bandwagon and read Twilight this weekend. What can I say, but I'm hooked! I really liked the dialogue that Stephanie Meyer had in the first book, so I've heard that the rest of the series is not as good, I'm looking forward to indulging myself in some guilty reading.
I'm aiming to catch the movie tonight and haven't quite decided whether or not the actors are a good fit to play Edward and Bella. I will though be paying attention to the clothes in the movie!

I'm digging this grey peacoat against the blue collared shirt! It goes great with his vampire pale skin and crazy copper colored hair. Yes this is a crappy image, but I'm sure there will be better ones as the week progresses.

And just for fun, here's an image in the latest issue of INSTYLE where they do a great spread on Twilight and its characters. I think Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart look FANTASTIC in this picture! But thats how I like my vampires, elegant and dangerous looking. =P

another beautiful find!

Here is another beautiful etsy find that has gotten me cuckoo over jewelry right now. I love love love love love the turquoise blue eggs!!!

L contends that it is too woodsy. It may be a bit more Lord of the Rings than Breakfast at Tiffanys but still, the worksmanship is still pretty amazing. This will definitely be for those days when I'm feeling like Arwen Ellesidil.

At $48 it's also relatively priced!

Why haven't I bought this yet? Because I just bought a cashmere cardigan on sale yesterday at Club Monaco. Hehehe whoops. It was the very last piece and in my size! It cost only $40!!! Well, ok sure it was only 15% cashmere and 85% cotton but still...it was cozy.

On a side note I've been scouring the the net trying to find a new flat that I can be really excited off. No such luck. My regularly frequented sites have just been disappointing. always lots of great staples out there, but nothing jumping out saying "blog me!"

but with the holidays coming up, I'm expecting some fancy flats to start appearing. oh woe is my wallet....

ooolala...

the obsession with ruffles continues! this Zoa ivory mini dress sold out at Nasty Gal but gorgeous is it not?

I'm also obsessed with this dress, but at $300, I can only look and drool. Maybe if I rented out my apartment for the crazy inauguration rush I can actually purchase this. hehe =P

on a sidenote: it is crazy how much hotels/motels are charging for next year's presidential inauguration!!!! Motel 6 is charing $600 a night. Insane yes? Lots of people have headed over to craigslist and listed their apartments for the masses coming into the capitol for the event. Some people are charging up to $1500-2000 dollars a night to rent out their apartments/condos/homes/rooms!

mmmm oddly familiar?

(above) The original Mrs. Marilyn Manson, Ms. Dita Von Teese

(above) Evan Rachel Woods, current Marilyn Manson girlfriend
After being busy the entire day and night yesterday I feel a little parched on my celeb gossip information. Rumors have it that Evan Rachel Woods has dumped Manson, tho she refutes that claim. But what's more interesting is why is Woods looking ALOT similar to Dita Von Teese? Actually it looks like a down right copy...
Anyways tho, Rachel I think needs to see her colorist because the dye job is kinda bad.

off post: invasion of the froyos

ever since I trekked over to new york to try the lastest west coast craze of froyo ala PINKBERRY I admit, I have been totally itching for DC to have the chain over. A month or so ago a co-worker had told me about Mr. Yogato, a new froyo place that opened on 17th street (http://www.mryogato.com/).

two weeks ago L and I finally tried it and it was wonderful! and the best part, only 25 calories and 6 grams of sugar. SWEET.

my favorite flavor is their original tangy.
last night on the way home from yoga, we pass by P st and low and behold, ANOTHER FROYO PLACE!!! Tangy Sweet, COINCIDENTALLY (or not?) has the same colors as pinkberry. (http://www.tangysweet.com/)
I am hoping to try this place soon to see if it beats Mr. Yogato or not. I'm wondering why the bigger chains like Red Mango or Pinkberry hasn't made its way over here yet. Maybe it's only a matter of time.

off post: SIA

L and I caught Sia's performance at the 9:30 club a few months ago. She has a beautiful voice and was very personable on stage. I can listen to her for hours. Her song Breathe Me has been stuck in the head for the longest time. I dont mind though :)

off post: whenever i get fussy

its no secret that i love natalie portman's style. she's simple and classic, always letting her best features stand out (her pretty face!!!!). so whenever i get fussy over clothes i always love to look to her to get grounded back to reality.

case in point:

here is Nat leaving LAX. she's dressed in a simple gray t-shirt, jeans, and chucks. she's carrying a backpack and a coat (pressumably to head back to chilly nyc). and to me she looks gorgeous as always. thank you ms. portman to reminding me that you don't have to wear the most stylish looking pieces to look amazing.

off post: the outerwear obsession

whenever I shop for clothes I always think of a particular story or situation wherein I get to wear the piece and look fabulous. case in point, a recent purchase at Club Monaco of a top that had gorgeous strap detailing and I was even more thrilled because it was the last XS and it was on sale. It was meant to be!

I have an upcoming event that I will be attending early this summer, which will have me see people I haven't seen since college. And that means I need to look extra fabulous. That means I need to be disciplined in doing those workouts and I need to drink more water. More importantly I have an excuse to shop even more. Haha!

That ties into my reccent obsession --- outerwear. Jackets more specifically. I've been hunting for shrunken, structured, well-fitting jackets for the past few months. I've had some luck, but as it seems I stumbled onto Abigail Adam's peahoodie. It's made of sweatshirt material but styled like a classic short peacoat. I was beyond thrilled. Really really beyond thrilled and am currently eagerly awaiting my latest purchase. This is perfect as a layering piece for winter time, and even more perfect for sitting in a cold airplane cabin when you want something soft, warm and snuggly and yet look structured. Yes I'm planning to wear this at the airport for this summer's event.

On another note, I have lots of clothes and shoes I need to sell. AAGH! where to sell is the real question.
